UWA Publishing has acquired world rights to Thuy On’s fourth collection of poetry Insolence.
Thuy On reinvents, reimagines, and rearranges iconic figures in our literature, visual art, history, books, and screens.
The collection brings a contemporary feminist overlay to both real and fictional characters. Eve comes clean on why she ate the forbidden fruit. Medusa tells her villain origin story, only to reveal she is not the villain at all. Jane Eyre, Emma Bovary, and Ophelia update their tinder profiles. Ada Lovelace warns us not to speak to her about algorithms. From Mona Lisa to Hello Kitty, Insolence is a witty and perceptive celebration of women’s voices across time and space.
Thuy On says: “I am overjoyed to have my fourth book of poetry once again published by the stellar team at UWAP. Insolence offers poems from the point of view of female characters both real and fictional who have been historically sidelined or silenced and grants them centre stage.”
Kate Pickard, publisher of UWA Publishing, says: “We are delighted to be publishing Thuy On’s fourth collection of poetry. As the publisher of Thuy On’s previous three collections of poetry we can’t wait to hear what readers think of Insolence – we love it!”
Thuy On is a Melbourne-based arts journalist, editor, critic, and poet. She has three collections of poetry published by UWAP: Turbulence (2020), Decadence (2022) and Essence (2025).
Insolence will be published by UWA Publishing in March 2027.
