Daniel Juckes, editor of Westerly Magazine, will be in conversation with Rachel Robertson of Curtin University, to discuss Daniel's debut non-fiction book The Moment of the Essay published by UWA Publishing November 2024.
The Moment of the Essay is the second book in UWA Publishing's new Vignettes series edited by Sarah Collins and Tony Hughes-d'Aeth. The evening will feature an introduction by Tony Hughes-d'Aeth and a conversation between Daniel and Rachel, followed by book sales and signings. Light refreshments will be provided.
Dr. Daniel Juckes is a writer from Perth, Western Australia. He is a lecturer in Creative Writing at UWA, Editor at Westerly Magazine, and holds a PhD in Creative Writing from Curtin University. His creative and critical work has been published in journals such as Axon, Kalliope X, Life Writing, M/C Journal, Meanjin, TEXT, and Westerly. He was highly commended in the 2021 Fogarty Literary Award, and recently recorded a talk at TEDxYouth@KingsPark.
Associate Professor Rachel Robertson is Discipline Lead of Writing at Curtin University. She is the author of a memoir in essays, Reaching One Thousand, and editor of seven other collections, including two recent essay collections about art, Where the Ink Falls and 25 for 25. Rachel’s research interests lie in life writing, the essay, disability and illness narratives, and writing about the visual arts.
