Submissions

UWA Publishing is currently accepting manuscripts of:

  • scholarly works and non-fiction* (accepted all year)
  • **children's manuscripts by First Nations authors and/or illustrators (accepted all year)
  • middle grade and young adult manuscripts for The Spiers Prize (May only)
  • literary fiction, narrative nonfiction, and poetry for the Dorothy Hewett Award (November only)

 

We are not currently accepting submissions for general adult fiction, poetry, YA and children's manuscripts. If this changes it will be announced on this webpage. UWAP highly encourages writers who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, LGBTQIA+, gender diverse, neurodiverse, living with a disability, and/or culturally, ethnically and linguistically diverse to submit their manuscripts. To be the first to know when we open for submissions be sure to subscribe to our newsletter or follow us on Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn. *UWA Publishing is particularly interested in scholarly and non-fiction works about Western Australian history, natural history (flora and fauna) of WA. We are not currently looking for works of memoir, autobiographies, or narrative non-fiction. Please have a look at our already published scholarly books and non-fiction books to see if your work suits our catalogue.  You must be a citizen/resident or living in Australia or New Zealand to submit to UWA Publishing.

In regards to our general submissions:

The following information applies to our general submissions and does not apply to The Dorothy Hewett Award or The Spiers Prize.

Please note that UWA Publishing does not publish genre fiction including romance, sci-fi, fantasy etc. For our children's and YA general submissions we are only accepting junior, middle grade, and young adult fiction and we are particularly interested in natural history and Australian history stories. **We do not publish picture books. UWAP only accepts manuscripts via our Submittable platform. There is no fee for submissions and you are welcome to submit multiple manuscripts. Please format your manuscript to be in 11 or 12 point size and of a suitable font e.g. Arial, Times New Roman, Calibri etc.  If you have any queries please email admin-uwap@uwa.edu.au

Submissions may only be made electronically. We accept manuscripts via the Submittable website. You will receive an acknowledgement email via Submittable. While we endeavour to review submissions in a timely manner, this is not always possible. If you have not heard back from us after 3 months, please assume we are unable to move forward with your manuscript. Please check your junk mail folder during this time. UWA Publishing is not able to provide feedback on rejected submissions. Thank you for the opportunity to consider your work.
