Simone Lazaroo

Simone Lazaroo is an Australian author who was born in Singapore and migrated with her family to Western Australia in 1963.

Her previous novel, Sustenance, was published to critical acclaim in 2010 and was shortlisted for the Barbara Jefferis Award. Her other novels, The Australian FianceThe World Waiting To Be Made and The Travel Writer have all won the Western Australian Premier’s Prize for Fiction.

The World Waiting to be Made (1994) was inspired by Lazaroo’s own experiences and is about a woman who is searching for belonging in Australia, Singapore and Malacca; it won the T.A.G. Hungerford Award and has been translated into French and Mandarin.

Simone currently lectures in Creative Writing at Murdoch University in Perth, Western Australia.
