Loretta Baldassar
Loretta Baldassar is associate professor in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Western Australia. Born in Perth of Veneto descent, her research is characterised by her interest in Italian migration and the experience of second generation Italo-Australians.
Her work explores sociological perspectives on Australian society, migration, ethnicity and diasporic identity.
Her first book, Visits Home won the 2002 NSW Premier’s Literary Award in the Community Relations category. She contributed to Australians in Italy (2010) on the phenomenon of reverse migration and edited Intimacy and Italian Migration Gender and Domestic Lives in a Mobile World (2011).
