Bruce Dawe’s poetry has been taught in schools and universities for over forty years and is Australia’s best-selling living poet. Born in Melbourne in 1930 he left school early and worked in various positions before joining the RAAF in 1958 where he served for nine years including six months in Malaysia. He began teaching in 1969 at Downlands College in Toowoomba then lectured at DDIAE/USQ until retiring in 1993. He continues to teach several literature classes a week through the University of the Third Age. He completed all his degrees, a B.A., Litt.B., M.A., and Ph.D. by part-time study.
