The Wilderness Society's Environment Award for Children's Literature, now in its 31st year, recognises books that inspire a love for nature-from the soil below to the canopy above. Since 1994, the Wilderness Society has been celebrating the best new fiction, non-fiction and picture books written for children that promote a love of nature.

In 2022, the Wilderness Society launched the Karajia Award which honours First Nations storytellers sharing tales of connection to Country, language and community. The winners of the Environment Award and the Karajia Award were announced at a ceremony in Sydney on 11 October 2025 which marks the start of Nature Book Week: 11-19 October 2025.

The judges commented: "This book has an engaging way of connecting a child's everyday situation with the plight of wildlife, without feeling didactic. Ella actively leads the story's resolution which creates an empowering message for young readers. Kids have the power to change their world."
