Steve Mickler

 

Steve Mickler is a professor of communication studies and Head of the School of Media, Creative Arts and Social Inquiry at Curtin University.

Before his academic career, he worked in Aboriginal affairs in the Northern Territory and Western Australia, including with the Department of Aboriginal Affairs, the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Commission and the Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody.

He is the author of A Boy’s Short Life: The Story of Warren Braedon / Louis Johnson (UWAP 2014, with Anna Haebich), The War on Democracy: Conservative Opinion in the Australian Press (UWAP 2006, with Niall Lucy), The Myth of Privilege: Aboriginal Status, Media Visions, Public Ideas (Fremantle Arts Centre Press 1998) and Gambling on the First Race, Racism and Talk-back Radio (Centre for Research in Culture and Communication, Murdoch University 1992).
