Rica Erickson

Born in Boulder, Western Australia, in 1908, Rica Erickson worked as a school teacher in several country towns before marrying Sydney, a farmer, in 1936.

Rica is renowned for her work as a naturalist and historian, and is still writing histories to this day.

A celebrated (and self-taught) artist, Rica is a member of the acclaimed Botanical Artists’ Group (affectionately known as the BAGs), and has recently had a genus of orchid, Ericksonella, named after her in recognition of her contribution to Australian botany.

She was awarded an Order of Australia in 1987.
