Penelope Hetherington
Penelope Hetherington was born in 1928 and has written six books and edited three others, as well as having contributed many articles to Australian and overseas scholarly journals.
Penelope taught in State Secondary schools until 1957 and worked in the History Department at the University of Western Australia from 1970 to 1993. She made several trips to Africa, especially to Kenya, and undertook research, both in the Kenyan Archives and by exploring the daily lives of ordinary people and tracing their personal histories.
She was awarded a D.Litt in 2004 and is a Research Fellow of the UWA Department of History.
