Adrian Martin

Adrian Martin is an arts critic and audiovisual essayist based in Vilassar de Mar (Spain). He is Adjunct Professor of Film and Screen Studies at Monash University (Australia), and has been Distinguished Visiting Professor at Goethe University (Frankfurt). He is the author of eight books on cinema and popular culture. He has chapters in books on Jean-Luc Godard, Chantal Akerman, Vincente Minnelli, Tracey Moffatt, Fritz Lang, Max Ophüls, American comedy, digital cinema, Philippe Garrel, and many others. He has written several thousand articles and reviews since 1979 for magazines including Sight and Sound, Film Comment, Trafic, Cineaste, Cahiers du cinéma, Film Quarterly, de Filmkrant, Caimán, Screen, and a range of international art magazines and catalogues. He has served as editor in the online journals Rouge, LOLA and Screening the Past, and the book Movie Mutations (BFI, 2003). Between 1995 and 2006, he was the regular film critic for The Age newspaper in Melbourne and Australian Radio National’s program The Week in Film.
