Acclaimed British author, Maggie Gee, brings us her wry new novel, My Driver – a comedy of errors set in Uganda.
Vanessa Henman, a middle-aged British writer, flies from London to Uganda to attend an African writers’ conference. While in Uganda Vanessa also intends to visit her former cleaner, Mary Tendo, who is now the Executive Housekeeper of the Sheraton Hotel in Kampala.
Mary Tendo has different plans. Without knowing Vanessa is in Kampala she has persuaded Vanessa’s London based ex-husband Trevor, a plumber, to go to her home village to build a new well.
Unable to find Mary, Vanessa takes a trip into the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest to see the mountain gorillas. Insulting her driver, Vanessa is left stranded as war threatens Bwindi from the Congo, and it’s up to Trevor and Mary to come to her aid.
Praise for My Driver:
My Driver is an entertaining, droll novel, executed with a lovely light touch.LIONEL SHRIVER, AUTHOR OF 'WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT KEVIN'
