John Huisman graduated with a Ph.D. from the University of Melbourne in 1985 and has spent many years since then photographing and studying the marine plants of his adopted home, Western Australia.
He has published numerous scientific papers and has served for several years as President of the Australasian Society for Phycology and Aquatic Botany. At present he is a research fellow at Murdoch University.
Marine Plants of Australia has been his ‘labour of love’ for many years, combining his enthusiasm for phycology (the study of algae) and for underwater photography.
